ADVANTAGES OF CROP ROTATION

There are lots of merits of crop rotation. The followings are the advantages of crop rotation with reason:

1. It helps to control weeds, insects and disease: These are enemies of successful crop production. But their association with different crops is not always same. If different crops are grown in different time/year, they will not find their host sequentially. Ultimately infestation of such enemies will be less or stopped.
2. It helps to maintain soil fertility: If different crops are grown in different seasons like shallow rooted followed by deep rooted, legume followed by non legume as such soil fertility will sustain.
3. It helps in adoption of crops according to environmental condition: Crop selection can be done on the basis of environmental condition.
4. Market demand can be fulfilled: By growing different crops in a season market desire can be meet up.
5. Risk of growing one crop can be overcome: If one crop is grown there may be chance of failure of that crop due to different reasons like drought, over rain, storm etc. If different crops are grown in one season, one crop may fail, but other crops will supplement that lose.
